2 Day Woodfiring, 4 Days w/ glaze & load
Overview of Slips, Glazes, Woods and experience in firing a Woodkiln
Service Description
This is an exciting opportunity to cooperatively participate in, and learn about the thermal dynamics and processes of wood firing. We will start with preparations, fuels, wood stacking, discuss slips/glazes and clays used for woodfire, with a review of these results following the firing. You'll also begin to observe the loading process and kiln overview. Once loaded (day 3 hopefully) we'll then commence firing for two days. This truly is a unique process, that raises new awareness about what is possible with clay and fire. Most importantly, we're looking for a committed group for this, with your beautiful pots and positive energy. You'll need to be committed to the full four day schedule, meaning "no missed days", being there for the loading and onsite work and prep for firing, and present for stoking shifts on time! This adventure can prove challenging, especially out of respect for the group energy that is involved and dedication to the results. You can bring two cubic foot of pots, they may or "may not' all get in. Be selective with the work, no "re-fires", no "large" plates or big bowls, or these will have something inside it, on top of, or go in upright at best. Also, some clays are not appropriate for woodfire, so "ask first". We will likely get to cone 11 in some areas of the kiln and some clays don't like that. You'll need extra warm clothing (at night) that can get dirty (thick sweaters). Bring heavy duty gloves too, to protect your hands. I often say to folks "I live out in the middle of nowhere", really! So you'll also need to prepare stuff to bring, like meals and water. We will break as a group for lunch/meals during the first 2 days. Think of "camping" and how you might prepare for that. If needed your also welcome to do so, again, talk to me first. There are food places within 20 minutes. If you have any questions about this event, please feel free to ask and enquire more about this event at glenn@isacc.info. An itinary for the event will be prepared when you arrive.
