F5 Woodfiring, 5 Day glaze, load & fire.
12/2-6, Overview of clays, slips, glazes, fuels (woods) used and experience firing a woodkiln.
Service Description
This is an exciting 5 day opportunity to participate in and learn about the dynamic process of wood firing ceramics. We will start with preparation of fuels wood/stacking, glazing with discuscussion of slips/glazes and clays used for unique results, then load and fire the kiln, finishing with a review of the results following the firing. You'll observe the loading process and kiln overview with the variety of work from participant artists. Once loaded (on day 3) we will then commence firing for two days. This truly is a unique process, that raises new awareness about what is possible with clay and fire. More importantly, we're looking for a committed group for this, with your unique pieces and positive energy. You'll need to be committed to a full five day schedule... meaning "no missed days". You'll need to be there for loading and onsite prep and work for firing, and be present for stoking shifts on time. This adventure can prove challenging, especially out of respect for the group energy involved and with the dedicated energy toward results. Your allowed two cubic foot of pots, they may or "may not' all get in. Be selective with the work, no "re-fires", "no large plates or big bowls" please... or these will have something inside, or on top of it, or go in upright at best. Ware will need to be pre "bisqued". Also, some clays are not appropriate for woodfire, so "ask first". We will likely get to cone 11 in some areas of the kiln, some clays don't like that. You'll need non flamable (wool) and warm clothing (at night) that can get dirty (thick shirt/jacket). Bring heavy duty gloves too, to protect your hands. I often say to folks "I live out in the middle of nowhere", really! You'll need to prepare stuff to bring, like meals and water. We will break as a group for lunch/meals during the first 2 days. Think like your "camping", and how you might prepare for that. If needed your also welcome to talk to me first. There are food places within 20 minutes. If you have any questions about this event, please contact me to ask and enquire more about this event at: glenn@isacc.info . An itinary for the event will be provided when you arrive.
